<em>That</em> was a valuable comment.

As for how much editting: two general passes before I published it and after writing it, and one read-through after publication. So to the flow goes: write it, mark it up for the Web, then insert headers and finally the excerpt or summary is chosen. Note the headers are the last thing that go in (the title is a header too) because if I do it the other way around I find I lock myself into a certain flow that may not be where I would have ended up naturally.

After I publish an entry, I always make sure to use <ins datetime=""> and <del datetime=""> tags to timestamp an edit (insertion, or deletion) to the originally published post for future reference. (This is also helpful so I can remember my original post better, and because I do not like revisionist history.) The one exception to this is the first pass immediately after publication, which I use to correct spelling errors and gross grammatical mistakes.

This entry is fascinating. I am dying to know how much editing is involved. I find the flow, organization and visual markup (paragraphing, titles, callouts, lists, styling) perfectly helpful. There's so much I could say about many things you said here, as your writing is so evoking, but somehow I begin to realize that my comments here maybe out of line, because of our relationship (I would not even beging to define that "line", suffice is to say that I begin to feel funny about that). However I feel that you may benefit from this:
Envying the trait of "being able to form casual relationships", in my humble opinion is an underlying yearning for simplicity and ease in general, but specifically in the relationships one forms with him/herself. I know this to be true with me.
