Frequently Asked Questions
There are some questions that I always get asked time and time again. This collection is an attempt to answer them before I get really strange emails.
How’d you choose “maymay” anyway?
I didn’t really, a friend did back when I was 9. She had trouble remembering my name, Meitar, and each time she tried to recall it she would repeat the first syllable several times. It came out sounding like May, may, may, may…
, which eventually just stuck.
You do realize what “maymay” means, right?
Yes, and for the record I am neither Asian nor female, though the nickname has been the cause of plenty of late-night amusement. (Maymay means little sister or similar in Chinese and Japanese.)
Why isn’t the comment I just wrote appearing on your site?
If you’ve submitted a comment and recieved no error message, but the comment doesn’t appear on the site there is usually no need to re-post your comment (so please don’t). The most likely reason it didn’t appear immediately is because it’s been held for moderation, awaiting my approval before it is publicly displayed.

How come you spell Bipolar Disorder so many different ways?
The words “bipolar” and “disorder” are just words. Sometimes I capitalize them and sometimes I don’t. I haven’t yet found any definitive text which seems to care, so I don’t really care either. Usually, I won’t capitalize them because that means a little less typing for me.
In general, you can consider the following variations of the phrase equally valid in any circumstance:
- Bipolar Disorder (with initial capitalization).
- BiPolar Disorder (with camel-case-like capitalization; the “b” and “p” of bipolar are capitalized, as is the “d” of disorder).
- bipolar disorder (no capitalization)
