As part of a corporate web site redesign project, Oxygen Media, Inc. needed to create several templates that would serve as the foundation for dozens of pages while remaining flexible enough to adapt to the marketing department's exacting design requirements for each page. After investigating a number of possibilities, the production team determined that the only solution was to implement the web site with heavy reliance on advanced CSS styling rules to keep the site's codebase small and optimized for speed and accessibility.

Oxygen sought Maymay Media to work alongside the company's ASP programmers in order to build the HTML sources for each page while the design from the Marketing department was iteratively implemented in the templates' style sheets. During development, care was taken to consolidate and conserve resources such as images and bandwidth.

This optimization effort led to a massive reduction in file size downloads (script downloads were reduced from over 24 kilobytes to less than 3, a savings of over 800%) making the site appear faster and more responsive. At the same time, the modernized templates and standards-compliant codebase allowed the implementation of accessibility improvements for all web browsing software and even gave the site maintainers a lower edit-per-change ratio for easier maintenace.
